Crossing The Artic Circle....Saturday 21st December....

This morning at 08.40 we cross into the Artic Circle...sorry photo of the "globe" on the rock is blurred but not quite got the hang yet of taking photos in the dark !!
And we have the certificates to prove it !!!
We declined the invite at 10.30 to join in the "artic initiation" ceremony of ice down the neck followed by a tipple of cod liver oil but fun to watch and an enactment by the Aegir the Viking god of the sea....
Breakfast and then back outside for the beautiful "blue light" that is a feature of the hour before sunrise and after sunset in the Artic Circle.....
Sunrise...the sun will just sit on the horizon for a couple of hours.....
Stunning...and my photos do not do it justice at all.....
Sunset.....
Somewhat odd to be having lunch when the sun is setting but the food is excellent....lunch is buffet and always lots of delicious fish....
Coming into dock at Bodo, the town was severely damaged by bombing during WW2 and most traditional buildings destroyed....
From Bodo we cross open sea to the Lofton Islands and a tad rough, thank goodness for my seasick wrist bands and  pleased that we are not on the 1st dinner sitting....
I think I have mentioned that the ship as well as being a cruise is also a ferry service, we are fascinated by the many ports of call and the movement of people and cargo...
At 11.30pm we are geared up in our cold weather attire to view travelling through a very narrow fjord, we were amazed at how quickly our eyes adjusted to the dark, it really was spectacular....and of course when we got back to our cabin at 12.30 we couldn't sleep but hey ho we wouldn't want to have missed it....
More tomorrow from the Sleepy Travellers....
